Who is Rukawa Kaede?
Rukawa Kaede is the often silent, fox-faced "super rookie" basketball player from the manga and anime series Slam Dunk. He plays the position of small forward on the Shohoku team. Though an impressive player by himself, he lacks the ability to cooperate with the rest of his team which, incidentally, causes lots of problems. He is also the rival of the main character of the series, Sakuragi Hanamichi (or really, it's the other way around ;), and the two are often seen [literally] butting heads.

Facts
- his favourite pastime is sleeping: in fact, he often rides to school on his bicycle listening
to his walkman.. asleep! (a feat that well outdoes his basketball ability, in my opinion)
- he's called "[insert Japanese expletive] kitsune (fox)" by Sakuragi, and calls Sakuragi
"do'aho (idiot)" in return; this exchange happens quite often in the series
- he's a loner. However, despite this, he has his own cheerleading fanclub composed of various
teenage fangirls from Shohoku. He hates the attention, though, and ignores them
- he's a good fighter. Even local gang members fear him. Also, if anyone wakes him from napping
(and I mean *anyone*) he'll beat them up
- he doesn't speak a lot (in fact, he only speaks when it's important for him to do so). He also
wears a very cold expression, and never smiles. Most people (aside from his fangirls, that is)
consider him to be rude, selfish, and distant
- he's very independant (too independant, actually) and hates to lose. He only respects those
he thinks he's on the same level with, and is always looking to overstep them
- he's not very good at school (considering he's always falling asleep during class...)
- his goal is to not only be the best basketball player in Japan, but make it into the NBA
- he choose to go to Shohoku High because it was closest to his house, despite being offered a
spot on the Ryonan basketball team (lazy...? :)
